Extensive research led to the development of exact® Original Hand Feeding Formula for Baby Birds in 1989 and then exact® Hand Feeding Formula for Macaws. Research on these products was conducted at the KAYTEE Avian Research Center (housing over 4000 birds of over 100 species) and was validated in more than five years of studies both in-house and through its field research stations. As studies continue today, KAYTEE® exact® Hand Feeding Formulas have become the recognized leader and are used by breeders, zoos and endangered species propagation programs throughout the world.During this time, KAYTEE also conducted extensive field research in parrots and macaws, with the most notable study taking place over a 5 year period in wild Amazon Parrots where crop samples were collected from nestlings and analyzed for nutrient content. The most significant finding was the high fat content of the food fed to these babies. This high fat level not only provided for rapid chick growth, but also allowed the parents to only feed two times per day after approximately 10 days of age.
KAYTEE has now developed exact® High Fat Hand Feeding Formula that more closely replicates what babies are fed in the wild. With over 75% more fat then exact® Original Hand Feeding Formula for Baby Birds, this product produces superior growth for all neonatal babies and for those species that perform best on a higher fat hand feeding diet.
