Mourning Dove
Named because of its seemingly sorrowful song, the Mourning Dove is a common resident of backyard feeding stations, where it prefers feeding on the ground or from a platform feeder.
The courtship display of the male, as he struts around the female, puffing up his body as big as he can make it and cooing constantly, is a joy of spring.
